Default The recent form of Adlene Guedioura

OK So it seems there has been some debate on his recent form lately.

In fact i'm for want of a better word than "form" because I think the opinion is actually are you or are you not forgiving his mistakes?

Its true that he's something the City Ground or indeed the championship hasn't seen a lot of over recent years, a player of real creativity, flair, and utter boldness. However I don't think many would debate the fact that these qualities come at a price, quite a few slip ups.

Personally I think these sides go hand in hand at this level; skills and want of style that top tiers beckon, but submission of the ball and break up of play one too many times for the approval of the "elite (again for want of a better word)"

So personally I have to say i'm a fine, so long as we keep serving up enough chances that we can afford to waste.

However it is noticeable that pretty much 100% of forum posters who were watching the match on TV were not too fond of him today, I think mainly due to the fact that in the close ups his face seemed to say "Don't give a shit" whenever he tried something risky and failed. The cameras also showed the angry reactions of the players to this.

    So what do you think?

Oh and get in you reds!!!!! Going up

    Form is temporary.

    Class is permanent.

3-0, 9 points, top of the league and haven't conceded. He'll be fine.

Cloud do with someone next to him telling him to calm down at times. He didn't look happy when Mackie was giving him a bollocking though.

Flawed genius. Long may he reign. We need Billy to make the rest of the team tolerate it though.

I was at the game so I didn't see any 'don't give a shit' faces. Slightly worrying if true - can anyone elaborate? I'd encourage Pep to try the risky stuff if he was playing in the Lansbury role but it doesn't work in the DM position. He needs to acknowledge his place in the team and keep it simple.

He was a bit sloppy again in the first half. He started last season slowly as well.

He was still a cut above Bolton though.

First half he made some errors that on another day might have cost us. The thing is, he seemed just as frustrated as the fans with the errors, and he came out for the second half fired up and barely put a foot wrong.

Did today and against huddersfield have a couple of passes go astray which maybe looked a little sloppy, against other opposirion we could have been caught out, but overall he is class some of his touches and close control are awesome imo

Just needs to do the simple things a bit more often, but his overall game is still good enough to do the job he's in there for.

I'm actually quite enthused by it because things aren't breaking for him at the mo (for whatever reason), so when he does click into gear we'll have even more to get excited about.

I think the way he was buzzing around in the second half winning every ball in sight tells you how much of a shit he gives...

On form he is peerless. For that reason we persevere with him when he goes through a bad patch. 2nd half today was better than the last 3 games. He will come good.

Big Gueddy fan but in the first half he was absolutely dreadful today, second half he came out and looked a different player. He just seems to be able to get himself out of his own messes but then create a complete new mess for himself with his next move. Infuriating to watch but brilliant at the same time.

Just goes to show how far we've come when we're wondering if Guedioura is one of our worser performing players!! About a season or so ago he was by far and away the best player we had in the entire squad (also especially that dark time under Cotters), so its proof of how much quality there is in our side!! Anyway, he'll be fine - as someone said above - class is permanent!!

I'd say that just about wraps it up!

his passing has been erratic recently, though in fairness to him, he makes a lot of effort to get the ball back if he does give it away, hes earnt the right to have a few dodgy games, he'll get better, im sure

You've nailed it there I think. Even when he's on top form I have my heart in my mouth with a lot of the stuff he tries but when it works, it looks amazing. Our current formation means that if he takes a player or two out of the game in the middle third with a move (which he does often) then it creates an instant platform to carve them open.

He's so key to what we're about at the moment, the question is how to mitigate for him while he calms down a bit. He can't complain that no one was showing for the easy ball as he was rarely left down a cul-de-sac...

I watched the 2nd half on Al Jazeera and thought Pep was good.

Didn't see him in the 1st half though.

Adlene was frozen out a Wolves by Mick McCarthy.
I don't like MM, but I do respect him as a manager.
Maybe he saw the flaws in the diamond and thought "This guy is going to cost me games, despite being a bit of a genius at times - I'll ditch him".
I also understand there are a couple of Premiership clubs after him, while we are after Jason Holt.
If we had a back-to-back deal opportunity - £4m gor Adlene to pay £4m for Holt... I might be tempted.
And I do think Adlene is a flawed genius.

I thought Gued had a decent game, tigerish in the tackle and plenty of gusto, does lose the ball in perilous positions at times and the less said about his shooting the better. But he's a dynamic cog in our machine and he'll get even better as the team blossoms.
