    Default Tour de France

Surprised not already a thread on this but Chris Froome was class today but it just doesn't carry the same impact without Wiggo.

There is a thread somewhere I think (I may have started it?)

Froome is having an excellent Tour so far and was immense today, putting 1'46" into rival Alberto Contador, who is his main rival for the Yellow Jersey.

Team Sky have set themselves up well this year and - so far - things are going to plan.

„The revolution will inevitably awaken in the British working class the deepest passions which have been diverted along artificial channels with the aid of football.“

I have to say that although Sky get alot of stick for their impact on football they have done a great job for British cycling . The main man though is team head Dave Brailsford an absolute genius of a leader and tactition.Knight him.

Great burst from Froome at the end after his team mates had pulverised the field with their pace.

Considering he's a very good Time Trialist, it'll take something for someone to catch him.

Sir David Brailsford he already is!

The biggest impact on British Cycling has been the injection of money, primarily £26m from the National Lottery, that has allowed for the hiring of quality staff - like Dave Brailsford and his team - and has allowed the profile of cycling to be raised.

You only have to look at the success at Olympic and European level; not just the men's competition, we now have a quality field of women cyclists too - Dani King, Laura Trott, Joanna Rowsell and Lizzie Armitstead amongst them, all supported by the lottery cash flowing into British Cycling.

But I agree - Team Sky have done an excellent job; their preparation is down to the most minor details and it is paying off.

Good times to be a cycling fan!

Chris Froome is riding like a Champion today.

On his own, surrounded by four opponents and he's keeping them honest.

    Chapeau, that man. Chapeau.

Great support for the Peloton from French locals too:

And marvellous to see a huge Nottingham Forest flag at the base of Mont Ventoux as the Peloton began their climb on today's stage up the monster, out-of-category climb up the Ventoux (out-of-category = bloody steep!)

Surely this Forest flag deserves at least two of its own threads.

Listening to the french commentary today, they made a few remarks about froome being "dopée", they really are only happy when a frenchman is in the lead, when a British rider takes the tour by storm, they can't take it!

It's Bastille Day - anything other than a French stage-winner is a national tragedy.

Froome today took a massive step in securing the Yellow Jersey.

His move on Contador, mercilessly slapping him down and accelerating away, was brutal.

It was hilarious yesterday because they came so close to a first french win on this tour, only to run out of legs in the final K.

Froome just looks so strong, they just cant get close to him! He is a king of the mountains who can time trial, I can honestly see him dominating the sport for a good couple of years at least. Big statement I know, but I cant think of another who's going to take so much time out of him in the mountains that he won't just get in back in the time trial. incredible

Would love to know what he was saying in to Quintana in the final 5k.....are you feeling lucky?
