The old boys network is so overrated these days. The new money is made by folk who get off there arses and make things happen. They tend to like working with people very much like themselves, therefore other grafters attract each other. The harder you work, the more luck you make. Building networks is just a continuation of work, not a by product.

If a thick **** like me can do it, anyone can.
I agree. There are ‘old boy networks’ except now they’re just ‘networks’ - people who put the effort into socialising with like minded successful people. As in sport, people get luckier the harder they work. Of course, being intelligent enough to know what to work on is massively important.

Anyway, I went to watch the Moeen Ali show at Trent Bridge last night. They should pick him for England. He’s too good for County cricket.

The downside of having a big event that attracts new people to a sport is that amongst those new people will always be people who have the wealth and contacts to jump straight to the front of the queue, in front of the long time fans, and get a seat at said big event.

I know Francis profoundly disagrees, but the person responsible for recruitment and direction is primarily responsible in my opinion Mase, although I've no doubt he has enough influence to ensure that it will be the coach who is thrown under the bus rather than him.

Australia are playing themselves in a tour match at the Ageas Bowl on Tuesday. How odd.

Are they doing it like I used to play cricket against myself when I was kid? You know, run up and bowl an imaginary ball, turn round to play it with an imaginary bat, then run to pull off a blinding imaginary catch?

I joined the fairweather fan bandwagon today and got myself a ticket for Day 1 and 5 of the Ashes at Old Trafford.
