    Default Halford up top?!

It seemed an odd decision from Billy, but who am I to doubt the great man?! Sounded from the commentary he had a belter playing up top and it was an inspired decision to give Cox some arial help against their big men.

Anyone at the ground, let me know how he played.

Not sure it says much about Sharp, apparently he has been sick recently, and Cox likes to play wider... In hindsight playing a big boy had more effect than Billy Sharp. I hope he will be back in the starting line up soon though.

Halford was an awesome sub by Billy. It worked really well, and Wolves hated it! He should start over Blackstock!!

Seems to be part of Billy's game plan at the moment, and it seems to be working.
Sharp is on loan so I can see the sense in not having to rely on him and building the team without him. I can also see this giving the team a psychological boost if they see a player of Sharp's calibre and believe they don't need him to win.
A poster on here has commented that he won't play again for us. That may be true but I can also see him playing a massive part when the big games come and the rest of the team are firing on all cylinders.

It's also a little bit of horses for courses.. I can see Sharp playing a big part against the likes of Brighton, Hull, Leicester etc. If he's match fit of course.. and if we don't bring in another super striker on loan like Billy has suggested.

Halford was really good, shame he didn't finish his chance but it was difficult. He also played their cb for a mug Knew exactly what he was doing to get him the red Although passing to cox would of led to a goal.

With Cox so desperate for a goal, I bet he was screwing! haha.. no complaints against Cox though, he keeps putting in the shifts, and our midfield keep slotting them in. If Cox starts firing towards the end of the season, he could be incredibly dangerous!

No. It was ok at that point, but Halford just doesn't know when to move or the positions to take up. Starting him up front would be a totally different prospect.

I'm sure Halford played up front for Portsmouth as an emergency striker in their Championship relegation season and finished as one of their top scorers?

I agree, a stroke of genius in that specific scenario, but let's not get carried away. That said, I love having such versatile players.. keeps other teams guessing. It also shows that Billy know's what he's doing with in game tactics and not just a lucky bugger, got everything right today from my point of view.

I'm thinking Halford was chucked on up front just to annoy the Wolves fans?

    Default Halford up top?!

Tactically it was brilliant. Wolves were pushing up and overloading us in midfield; Halford's presence alone kept Wolves defence honest and he won most of his headers and was instrumental in the sending off.

Good call by the Manager, very good call.

Have to say it was a clever move from Davies. It caught the Wolves defence off guard and provided Cox with the support he needed.

Of course Billy Sharp is a different player and there'll be times when we need him. I would argue that he is the one striker we've got who can play off the shoulder, run onto through balls and finish clinically. He's similar to Rob Earnshaw in that respect. Davies rotated the frontline quite a bit during his last spell so I'm sure Sharp will get an opportunity.

He came off injured after 35 minutes

What do you mean by he kept their defence honest?

There was a mention of him having a cold.. not sure how much can be read into this, but would explain the substitution early on if he had a tight chest and was trying to play through it. Hopefully nothing serious.

That could be him out for a few weeks then. He's been getting stick recently but he does a good job for the team, particularly with the way we're set up to play at the moment.

That makes the search for a loan striker a lot more interesting then. I can only imagine as no one could tell what was wrong with him, it can only be a minor twinge? let's hope so.

Wolves only had Cox to mark, so were pushing an extra man into midfield and outnumbering us.

With Halford up there too, they had to keep an extra man back to mark him too, and that meant midfield was much more even, and Moussi was able to influence there too.

Also, Halford was instrumental in the sending off, as he was fouled when the defender was the last man, a justified red card.

Did really well. Showed us what we're missing by persisting in playing Blackstock.

I think the key to any further cameos for Halford playing up top (I don't see him as a striker, but obviously had a big impact today and could be useful at times) is whether he will be on the bench in future games. Can't see them sending him up there after playing 70 minutes at the back. Interesting thought..
