Had a convo with my girls last night about careers, having no sort of upbringing myself, I'm keen to put them on the right path early doors.

One of them told me she wanted to be a judge, my eyes lit up, I'm thinking decent nursing home with all the mod cons, until she revealed she meant a judge on the X factor.

    Kids.

Being a Judge on the X-Factor probably pays better than HM Judiciary though...

Makes me wonder where the phrase "like father, like son" comes from.

Problem with that is you have to dress like an twat, talk nonsense 24/7, and deal with idiot members of the public

So she's probably right to go for the X-Factor instead

Unless they want to have a degree that is unattractive to future employers, a massive debt, and live for several years in vermin infested Rigsby-esque slum housing, the best advice is to ignore Uni and get a job learning a trade.
Brikkies are able to work 3 and a half day weeks such is the demand led wage rate.
Electricians and Plumbers are also able to command big money.
And after learning their chosen trade at the feet of a master they should be encouraged to work for themselves.
My youngest has a string of qualifications and at 23 years old she has still not had a proper career job and has a student debt that is eye-watering.

Learning a trade is great but what most people who aren't in a trade don't know is most trades fucking ruin your body.

Brickies and plasterer especially but even plumbers and sparkies end up with fucked knees, backs and a myriad of aches and pains.

It's a lot better now but 40+ hours a week on site is a lot more demanding than sat at a desk. I know, I've done both.

Honestly, fuck working hard for a living. Make loads, hardly work and retire early.

Just been released without charge by the Metropolitan Police having been arrested late yesterday evening at Oxford Circus.

Heading back to Waterloo Bridge as police are attempting to remove protesters from there too.

    Fun and games!!

I've followed a bit of this, you're on about the Extinction Rebellion protests?

It's a fucking joke how they've been treated. Normal folk complaining about them causing disruption and the Police arresting them. Aren't we all on the same side? The planet is close to fucked and some wankers are only concerned about getting to their shit 9 to 5 office job. Whilst the Police protect the economy by minimizing disruption.

    We've had it. No hope.

    Yes mate.

I'd be a hypocrite if I wasn't prepared to do my bit.

I've been held for almost 24 hours, in a very civilised manner I must say, by the police, only to be released without charge, so I'd better get back to the frontline and see if we can do it properly

The police are having a real go of breaking the illegal protests now while 4he City is at its quietest with ever more strong arm tactics trying to get a physical response back from the protesters which will give them the opportunity to smash a few heads in.

It was quite jovial yesterday even as they were removing people. It feels a bit more sinister tonight.

    Could be interesting.

What makes me laugh is we have protests connected to things like Brexit, LGBT, and loads of other things, yet without a habitable fucking planet to live on its all irrelevant.
People need to to get out of their self absorbed existences and look at the bigger picture.

Heat their homes with gas? Buy clothes? The list is endless and until we all stop doing these things nothing will change.

That's before we get to China, America, etc, pumping out masses of greenhouse gasses that make my bike and occasional car use look like a grain of sand.
Electric cars? Great! Can you afford one? I can't. Let's all have solar panels, ground thermal heating and wind turbines. Who's paying for that? Me, you, whom? Nothing will change because as ever vested interests promote the status quo so protest as much as you like, it means nothing.

I don't disagree but we can only try to affect what is close to us. Poland still gladly use fossil fuels, we can't change that but we can put pressure on our own government to implement change and subsidies it.

Protesting can make small changes, which is progress.

    That's all we can do.

Ok but I'm too old and cynical to think protesting gets us anywhere. Hope I'm wrong.
