Default WHY ARE WE SO CRAP IN THE CUP??

After witnessing our latest debacle yesterday v Oldham, i have to ask the question why are so crap in the Cup?? Ive been going home and away since the 1967/68 season and in all that time there have not been that many memorable FACup runs....
1973/74 (QF), 1977/78 (QF), 1987/88 (SF), 1988/89 (SF), 1990/91 (F), 1991/92 (QF), 1995/96 (QF) are about the only decent ones.

More worryingly, that is some 17 years since we made even a QF & when you look at some of the teams we have lost to, Chester, Oldham, Wrexham, Chesterfield, not to mention numerous occasions when we have lost to lower league oppostion at the time and often in the 3rd round.

SIMPLY, not good enough and once again short changing the fans.

I thought we were dreadful at Blackburn on NYD, and then even worse yesterday. The bad attitude of some of the players was clear to see .... as to why are we so bad in the Cup's ? players who don't want to put that extra yard in, lack of bottle, lack of courage and caring little.

If you don't want to give your all for Nottingham Forest, ask for a transfer...simple as that. Cloughie would insist you gave everything in every game, friendly or kick about, shame he didn't manage some of today's players ... would have made much better people out os some of them!

I tend to think the more pertinent question would be "why are we so crap?" full stop.

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Playing 3-5-2 with the players to play 4-1-3-2 in the line up?

Never used to bother me that much, many moons ago several used to vow every season that we would see every game that Forest played in the cup, so easy to do on so many occasions

It's strange now to think that we used to almost take trips to wembley for granted.

We beat Man City 3-0 away a few years ago in the 3rd round... Although we did go on next round to lose to Derby County after taking a 2-0 lead..

The FA Cup should be a break from the toils of the league. I didn't realise that it was an opportunity for the team to go on holiday. Oldham were there for the taking; a decent formation where the players knew exactly where and how they were to play should have seen off a fairly crap side. This forum is treating it like the end of the world; it is how the manager reacts to it and how he makes the players react to it which will define what is left of the season. I'm just a simple chap; I think a 442 formation with players intelligent enough to show some flexibility when needed is more likely to bring success than some damn fool 3,5,2; 5,3,2; 5,4,1; etc. I pity the team yesterday who had to wrestle with a strange formation.
We could have been playing the Hub-cap stealers as well. Full house. Atmosphere. Spotlight.

For many years now, we've been rather rubbish with intermittent moments of inspired brilliance irrespective of whether it's in the league, the FA Cup or the TinPot Paint Pot.

I think playing and beating Spurs and Man City have been our most recent successful highlights.

Playing Liverpool would have been quite an occasion and one which would have been greeted with mixed opinions. Whereas it would have been awesome to have progressed in the Cup, our priorities have to lie with sorting out the basics so we can complete competently in the League.

'Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings' - Salvador Dali 1904-1989

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.

Perhaps we're still being punished for only half filling the CG for our last FAC QF v Aston Villa after the brilliant fifth round penalty shoot out win v Spurs (had it all - Woan screamers, snow, Crossley bellyflops).

In the last 8 years, the only teams we've managed in to beat in the third round are Charlton when they were two divisions above us, Man City and...erm...Preston. Preston spoil that odd record a bit.

The 1977/78 season? I think we were knocked out in the quarter-finals by them. It would've been quite an achievement for Forest to win a clean sweep of the domestic trophies that year to add to the League title and the League Cup. 2 out of 3 wasn't bad though!

No, it was in 2003, I think. Think we only made it past the 3rd round, but got a re-match. Felt like a cup run.

We beat WBA in the cup one year around the time of Kinnear. Marlon King scored. There's two names that let you know that wasn't a classic.

I remember, Marlon King scored a penalty and it was our first win in a long time

We are crap in the cup these days because these games are one-offs that require skill, and more importantly, passion.
We seem to have players that have the skill but seem t lack the passion.
