And on that subject, Fender have announced a Tom Morello „Soul Power“ signature Stratocaster:

I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Oh and Fender have also announced an Acoustasonic Stratocaster, following on from the Telecaster model.

Indeed they have but the 'Soul Power' comes as a decal that you can put on yourself or leave off. Would have preferred it to be physically on the guitar.

Anyone into EMGs know what this is?

Passive, and I'm sure it's a signature pedal but I can't remember exactly. It's a friend of mines

Is it a Tele? The Jim Root Telecaster had EMG pickups, one of John 5’s did as well I think. If they made a budget model they’d fit the passive version of EMG.

I’ve used EMG 81’s for a long time, not in every guitar obviously but I’ve always had a guitar in my collection with them in. 81’s are active and require a 9v battery, they have a compressed sound that works well with distortion and were commonly used by bands like Metallica, Slayer, Zak Wylde...

It's an Affinity Strat retrofitted with a single EMG. He got it ages ago off eBay but he can't find the listing anymore

    Ah okay.
Some cheaper Strats have a ‘swimming pool route’ under the scratchplate, so plenty of room to fit bigger pickups. All you have to do is buy a humbucker routed scratchplate.

Some of the US ones did too.

I had a 93 Strat Plus Deluxe (with the Lace Sensors) and that had the „swimming pool“ routing. I loved that guitar, broke my heart when I had to sell it.

I think it is too, though I seem to remember it being a signature pick up but I haven't got a blues clue.

If it was me, I'd take the pickguard off and check it out but my mate won't spend the money on a new set of strings. He's gonna sell it, and I'm interested as, as obvious as the sun coming up, I want a metal guitar to learn some Slipknot

    DO IT!

Loadsa fun. You could even put an EMG 81 in it with the battery in the tremolo spring cavity on the back of the guitar. They don’t go for much on eBay second hand, out of fashion, prob get one for £40.

Been playing my Jackson Rhoads with the EMG in lately

He's the weirder thing, I think the pick up is passive, there's no sign of a battery anywhere and it's always worked. From when I've played it it's sounded really thin as well.

It's looks a bit like a Jim Root Strat but I think he's going to want more then I want to pay
