Default Smart phone Internet at the CG

Slightly different topic but what the heck.

I often make bets that require in play manipulation on my iPhone whilst at the game. Unfortunately my orange iPhone never connects properly to 3G network whilst in or around the CG.

Quite often I look at folks near me who seem to be checking scores on their smart phones.

Is this just a problem with orange or is there another issue? Is there any wifi access?!

    Thoughts

The signal is hit and miss owing to so many folks hammering it on match days. I use Giffgaff (runs on O2) and normally am fine, but on occasions it lets me down.

There is nffc corporate wifi around but it's protected.

Orange is rubbish in congested areas - the CG is an example (fellow Orange sufferer here).

Same on o2, always happens in areas with shed loads of people all trying to the same thing.

I am alright during the game but half time is unuseable. Isnt it so many people in one place trying to use the same mast, or something?

Ah, that's why my phone was working fine at half time then, with there only being 19,000 odd.

just switched to three recently as after a good few yrs of bad press they seem to have upped their game just lately (plus they do some really good plans) and have found it to be better than organce already. Will let you know what its like on next matchday though.

    Plenty of signal, no bandwidth.

It's always going to be a problem unless all the networks want to install LOTS of new masts which will only be used in anger for 3 hours every other week.

Now...if NFFC were to invest a modest sum on wifi hardware, and offer it at, say Ģ10 a season per head, I suspect (a) they'd be overwhelmed by takers & (b) rolling in profits after a year or so..

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

We know you don't know it yet, but we thought you'd go and find out what it is!

    No, not really!

I'm not sure how you'd go about cracking a WiFi code beyond some kind of program that bruteforces it by trying lots of iterations!

Im on 3 network, i get plenty before and after the game (it can be slow) but during half time it does slow down, but also my phones broke so im using a much older smart phone which is also very slow so it might be contributing factor! But yh 3 network is ok!

There would have to be a big outlay by the club for the amount of people wanting to use it. We aren't talking about your standard Wifi and AP's here.

Following on from matchday, I've occasionally received a barrage of web based WhatsApp messages from certain forum members at approx. 0300 hrs.

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.

And wouldn't people just pass the password round to their mates?

The Frank Clark page on FB is no longer updating scores during the game as they had no mobile internet (im a ST holder so has no affect on me, but still a shame, and proves there is a lack of bandwidth)

I recall that Man City installed a free WI-FI system at the Etihad, guess what..During games there itīs congested and doesnīt work.
I bet itīs similar at other stadiums, no one will plan for huge masses of people once or twice a week.

There is a few people next to me who as soon as we score or concede they go straight on their phone to tell all there friends, and also take phone calls during matches. I dont think wifi so that people can let their fb friends know they just got their period and forest have scored will help anything. The trent end can be quiet enough at times! Im happy just to put up with it, as waiting to change 1 status for 15mins is more entertaining that watching someone try and kick a ball in an open goal to win a henry hoover!

Yep, the equipment to handle such numbers is specialist and very pricey
