Contribute LTLF sponsored Henri Lansbury during the 2012/13 season, and we would like to sponsor a player again next season. To do this we would like your help.

IF LTLF members can raise enough money required to secure the sponsorship of a players shirt for the 2013/14 season we will give away everything to do with the sponsorship as prizes to those that have contributed (prize draw to decide which members win the prizes)

Of course most Indians don't have the same spending capacity as UK citizens, but a middle-class Indian is relatively better off than a someone here on minimum wage - but evidently not in real terms. it's akin to saying that "When I were a lad you could go to the cinema, buy a bag of chips and get the bus home and still have change from 50p." It doesn't mean anything unless you account for inflation etc.
You also have to factor in their earning years, though. While the wages are high, they're only astronomical for a very short period, with a few exceptions footballers will probably have 5 years where their earnings are ridiculous, and then retire 30 years before the rest of us, so have to live in what they've earned.

I know that's not a difficult thing, but when the players ate earning £10k a week and spending like they're on £100k, it's quite possible that they will run out of cash by the time they're 40.

You have to factor in that these wages are going to kids - I shudder to think what most of us would be like with that much money at 21, I'd guess many wouldn't see 22.

    Talk to me, Goose.

Seems a bit disrespectful to John McGovern to label Luke Chambers as formerredscaptain.

I can't blame players trying to get all they can while they can.
But at the same time if I was a player on top wages I couldn't blame people for criticising the immoral sums that they get paid..

The local journos are conspicuous by their absence today. They seem to know fa about when this will be done. To them, "investigative journalism" seems to mean checking message boards.

8 players turned up for Pompey training today... and we talk about having only a few defenders!

If we only have half a team will the new owners be paying half the asking price. Seems fair to me as long as the spare cash is spent on new players.

I realise that it is subjective, I was just baffled by suggesting India of all places fits into this model when the majority of its people suffer from horendous poverty due to the country having the biggest wealth inequality in the world.

If a player can hit 30 with their mortgage paid and a good pension they've got more than most working men anyway and just need beer & bill money.

When you see a 20 y/o with barely 20 games under his belt driving round in a top of the range Merc it makes you wonder if they couldn't make the money they earn stretch a lot further too.

Personally, both to build character, give players a better perspective on real life, and to physically toughen them up I'd give youth players between 16-20 at least 1 day a week labouring. Light-ish labour that would carry less risk of injury (shovelling, gardenwork etc.), but labour none-the less

No chance :P They'll have to compensate the Doughty's for the money spent buying Earnie (for example), paying his wages and then letting him go for nothing. ND might have put £100m in but the asking price [i]should[./i] be a fraction of that.

As for the transfer it needs to fucking hurry up. When the statements came out I thought it'd be a week, now everyone is saying the 12th = get it sorted!!

@will_forest not sure who decreed that it would be done today, but looks unlikely now. Hopes for later in the week.
