He was obviously given false promises on team investment, squad quality, etc, you could see the frustration on his face after a few weeks into the job

It's going to be very clear in the next two months - if the anti-Schteve mob on here are correct, then Twente will be sliding steadily down the Dutch league. However, if they continue to push European giants like Ajax & PSV all the way, then the problem at the start of the season was definitely with NFFC and NOT Steve MacClaren
He was obviously given false promises on team investment, squad quality, etc?

From someone who was involved in the negotiations with his 'adviser', the amount he'd got to spend on new players was never discussed before he accepted the job, it was all about what he would be paid.

He spunked what money he was given up the wall on dross, and if he had to rely on 'promises' on squad quality instead of assessing it for himself, he deserved everything he got.

I wonder if he went up to the top of the stands to watch the game to get a 'better view'

    Tosser!

The man is a total leech gaining falsely ill-conceived plaudits upon men who actually know the game inside out.

And I tell you and everybody else concerned with Nottingham Forest FC that this man will go down in history as the one single appointment that led to the demise of the once double European Champions.

You will try and and come back with Doughtys promises, he won the poxy dutch league and so forth and pick the bones out of this post with figures or whatnot I've no doubt, but he's crap utter crap football manager and I know I'm right.

What complete nonsense. Either side of Billy Davies' tenure as manager, this club has been in permanent decline. We spent a long spell in League One and the club's finances have been in disarray. Most of our managers over the last fifteen years have been poor, and our transfer ineptitude is consistent with all managers. The club's demise was signed and sealed the moment the ink dried on Mark Arthur's contract. Why fans continue to look for a fall guy in the shape of the manager - something that happened even under Davies - I do not know. When McClaren left he gave the club a clean slate to go out and rebuild. What they chose to do is appoint another poor manager, and eat up the last of the club's finances on compensation for him. Whoever made this decision should be out of a job WHEN Cotterill is removed as manager of the club. Because there's no chance of them devising a football strategy that will see us thrive with a reduced budget.

I cant believe Frank would have put such an awful stamp on the club by appointing tractor boy for 3.5 yrs - this appointment has marthurs and niges fingerprints all over it ! - they cant get enough of making stupid decisions together it has to be them or atleast one of them

Yes CA, I think we almost forgot.... as well as Steve Cotteril not being the right appointment to get Nottm Forest back where we need to be, the club actually paid a fist load of compo to Portsmouth for the pleasure.

Now we all know why the Portsmouth fans came onto the Forest chat boards in droves, laughing their heads off and saying we actually did them a MASSIVE favour

Explain how you come to the conclusion that he can only use a cheque book.
Explain how utterly crap football managers win cups and league titles at clubs that don't usually do either.
Explain you come to the conclusion that McClaren is quote: 'the one single appointment that led to the demise of the once double European Champions'.

I'm with you. On a personal level, the bloke is a twonk and shoots himself in the foot with his silly accents, etc - but he didn't remain Feguscum's sidekick for as long as he did by knowing nothing about football!

He was brought to this club under false pretences and whilst 'his signings' (if that is even the case) have proved to be less than 'steller', I'm damn sure he thought that would be the tip of the iceberg in terms of what he was allowed to bring in.

Sadly, our cuntish owner thought better and, despite subsequently stating that SMC's appointment was all his doing, he has refused to pay for his mistake......

Even Routledge (whatever you think of him) could have joined the club and SMC offered to make up the shortfall in his wages out of his own pocket, but was denied this by MA and ND.

SC is clueless, despite being a seemingly decent bloke. The football under him is appalling and we're still conceding goals, whilst looking like we'll never score.

At least under SMC, going forward we looked half decent.........

Releagtion will come - and my only hope is that it absolutely slams Doughty in the pocket and finally wakes some of the idiots up to realise just what a shameful owner he has been.......

13 mangers. Or is it 14? But just one owner and one CEO

    Your comments are pretty ridiculous!

I maybe wrong but Im pretty sure when he won the title with Twente he didn't spend an absolute fortune - I think he actually lost a few core members of the side in that title run.

I'm sorry but I really do feel sorry for the man after what happened with the England job, Wolfsberg and Forest..... It showed a lot about his character in walking away from Forest and yes good luck to him at Twente.

I'm going to move this to Football Banter.

Oh hang on...it's McClaren we're on about, isn't it....

Have we got a "rip the beating heart out of..." board?

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

Just create a new section of the forum -

Instead of 'Down the Pub' you could put this one in 'Down the Toilet'.

I have a better idea - we should have a separate board where all these depressing threads go.

It could even have its own URL:

    LTLF.co.uk/wrists

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

I don't think things were helped by the fact that the bloke knows nothing about the championship.

    There's some truth in it.

After all the pressure to break the wage barrier, we signed Derbyshire and Miller...

Big wages aren't always the answer.

SM is not a bad manager.

We had a sqaud with some upset people in it, Camp was the biggest failing in the start of the season, allowing the defence to go to rat shit. And now he has admitted he was pissed off at not going to Swansea. Others in the squad were not happy with the new guys and higher wages.

So it was not McLaren who put us into this mess, nor is it Cotterill, it is the overpaid pussies who have been sulking, otherwise known as the squad.
