    Default Paul Anderson WTF?

Steve Cotterill is employed as Nottingham Forest as the manager of the 1st team so his duties are:

responsibilities in a professional football club usually include (but are not limited to) the following:

Selecting the team of players for matches, and their formation .
Planning the strategy, and instructing the same on the pitch.
Delegating duties to the first team coach and the coaching and medical staff.
Scouting for young but talented players for eventual training in the youth academy or the reserves.
Buying and selling players in the transfer market, including loans.
Facing the media in pre-match and post-match interviews.

So at 14:45 when the players finish the warm up and head to the dressing room to get ready for a 15:00pm kick off. The first thing i would ask is everyone fit etc etc the team would of been announced a day or 2 days before the game so the players will know the game plan etc etc. But at 15:07pm McCleary was stripped and ready to replace Paul Anderson who came off after 7 minutes. Who them went straight down the tunnel. Cotterill later revealed in his post match interview that Anderson tweaked his hamstring in the warm up. Hamstrings are dodgy things if you play on a tweaked one and damage it you could be out up to 6 weeks. So why play him if you know that he wasn't 100%? Cotterill moans he has loads of injuries but he has failed his duty by playing a unfit player with a tweaked hamstring.

    beggers belief!!!!!!!!!!!

I can see the gamble with Lynch to a point lets see if the gamble pays off and get him through like Spuds do to Ledley King. But we had a winger on the bench with McCleary so playing Anderson was stupid.

I just read this on the OS

And Forest's worries increased when Paul Anderson, who hadn't appeared injured but was possibly unwell, had to be substituted just five minutes into the game, being replaced by Garath McCleary.
What the hell? If this was actually the case questions seriously need to be asked.

If it was a hamstring tweak then the best person to say if he was ready to play would have been Ando himself. I don't know whether to commend him for his commitment to go out there and play or be angry with him for not perhaps not admitting he was injured.

Either way, you don't take the chance and lose a substitution.

Exactly McCleary played all game when he came on, If he started we could of bought Derbyshire and Findley on to place up there with Tudgay and Dexter so we wasted a bloody sub.

Agreed, this was clearly from Doughties guide to forward planning.

Was bizarre to be honest, he gets subbed and jogs off down the tunnel in the space of about 15 seconds, thought he had got a call like his missus was in labour or some really bad family news, didn't seem to be carrying an injury but there ya go.

He was struggling before he came off. He was putting in a lot of effort in to run. He was clattered early on.

What beggars belief is your post.. For all you know Anderson could have swore blind that he was fine and fit to play, you have to take your players word for it in such circumstances.

Depending on when he sustained the injury during the warm up, we may not have had a choice. Once the team sheets are given to the ref, that's the team that has to play, we could have taken ando off, but it would have still counted as a sub.

I'm not sure that's right? I've watched matches before where a players been injured n the warm up and you're allow to replace them - and the place on the bench.

I've seen it as well on more than one occasion. Very recently in a Prem TV game which now escapes me.

Both teams have to agree on it I think but that's just formality usually.

That's why you name an 18 man squad with 2 players on standby e:g Darlow would travel with the squad as back up keeper to Camp and Smith.

Happened to us against West Brom in January 2010. Earnshaw was injured in the warm up and just sat on the bench wrapped up.

    Team; Camp,Gunter,Shorey,Wilson,Morgan,Cohen,Majewski,Mc Kenna,Moussi,Anderson,Blackstock

    Subs,Perch,Tyson,Chambers,McGoldrick,Smith,Adebola ,McGugan

I was told, but couldn't see evidence from my position, that Ando shat himself...hence the polite 'unwell' explanation and quick exit...

Without getting into to much detail, that's not a reason to be substituted.

Quick run down the tunnel and change your shorts.

Gary Linekar shat himself mid match in Italia 90.

I may have been imaging things, but on the way home last night after the match, listening to the Manager on Radio Nottingham, he said Anderson had tweaked his hamstring in the warm-up, but - and this is the important bit - Cotterill asked Anderson if he was OK, and the player replied he was.

Kind of hard to blame Steve for that?

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Well i didn't hear the explanation from Anderson just the Cotterill bit, But even so if a hamstring is tweaked you do not risk it that's basics of a manager judgement on a players injury. So i would of said "sorry Ando we have too many injuries your not worth risking when we have a winger on the bench".

No, you ask the player. It is only the player who can honestly tell you how bad it is.
