    Default Watford Preview questions

    Hi all,

I am writing a preview for WFCForums of next Saturday’s match, and as part of this I am hoping to include some views of Forest fans. So if any of you could take a few minutes to answer the questions below it would be greatly appreciated.

    1) Having been in the play-offs last season, how do you think Forest have started their current campaign?
    2) What do you make of Steve McLaren’s tenure at the club, and his past managerial roles?
    3) Are there any particularly strong/weak areas in your squad?
    4) Who, if anyone, is your key player?
    5) Which Watford player would you like to see in the Forest side?
    6) Watford managed to sign Joe Garner from you on deadline day, what do you think of this move, and of Garner as a player?
    7) What do you think of Watford as a club?
    Finally, what’s your score prediction?

Thanks in advance. I might well see some of you in Nottingham, I’m starting at the university on Sunday!

just to add...your "stadium" reminds me of a barn. Also - had terrible row with a girlfriend in 1987 when we went to see watford v forest when in those days you had to climb up a thousand steps to the away end. It started to rain and she pissed off home, so I left her and went to the game anyway.

    4. Our left back is the best in the league.....

    5. Who's your left back?!

    6. (serious hat on for a mo) Garner split opinion on the boards here - some saw him as an idle waster, others as an undiscovered talent. It appears the previous manager certainly saw him as a bad influence on impressionable players. I remember him for a memorable goal against Southampton, but little else, sadly.

    7. I can't claim to have strong opinions on Watford, despite having lived in norf Norf London for a few years, and working in a WD6 postcode area, though I do remember them as a strong team in the late 70s early 80s, with the likes of Loofah Blissett playing. I see the "lazy scouse git" Ian Woan is assistant at Vicarage Road. He possessed one of the sweetest left feet it's been my pleasure to watch.

    8. We are more than likely to be on, from our POV, the wrong end of a shoeing. This is a good time for teams to play Forest - we appear to be in disarray from top down - the goalie is bereft of confidence, and the defence all appear to be meeting each other for the first time, and our strikers have the cutting edge of a spoon.

    ***
Anyhow - welcome to LTLF - it's nice to see an away fan who's not revelling in the chance to be a wind-up-merchant at this point...After Saturday's game (especially if we get a stuffing on Tuesday in the Cup against Newcastle), you may end up with those bragging rights too....

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

    1) Having been in the play-offs last season, how do you think Forest have started their current campaign?
Forest are usually slow starters, battling in games and not getting the rub of the green, this season has been a case of not having much of a clue.

    2) What do you make of Steve McLaren’s tenure at the club, and his past managerial roles?
Take away the England job and his short stint at Wolfsburg he is a bloody good manager.

    3) Are there any particularly strong/weak areas in your squad?
Our back four seem to be still on holiday, our supposed 'quality' in midfield has no idea what each other are supposed to do leaving the front two isolated with no service and no support for the back four.

    4) Who, if anyone, is your key player?
McGugan or, if he gets the service, Miller.

    5) Which Watford player would you like to see in the Forest side?
Is your left back any good?

    6) Watford managed to sign Joe Garner from you on deadline day, what do you think of this move, and of Garner as a player?
Good luck to the lad, hope he gets a fair crack and does well for you.

    7) What do you think of Watford as a club?
To be fair I don't know enough about you to have a balanced opinion.

    Finally, what’s your score prediction?

If it's the forest that turned up Saturday then a cricket score to Watford, if they somehow have found out how to play football again 2-1 to us.

    1) Shit
    2) Shit
    3) Weak areas: GK, LB, CB, CB, RB, LW, CM, CM, RW, ST, ST, Owner, Chief Executive, Rest of the board.
    Strong Areas: N/A
    4) Joel Lynch - this pretty mcuh sums up our season so far.
    5) Lee Hodson, just for the shirt.
    6) Shit
    7) Don't really know apart from your probably better than us.
5-0 watford if you have 11 players, 8-0 Watford if you get a player sent off.

    1) Not good. A new manager has come in and there was a slow start but losing last weekend to a 10 man Derby side that we led from the outset really hurt. Lot of negativity since then and questioning if McClaren is the right man for the job. Not pleased with start overall.
2)McClaren has had a very much up and down career,we all know of his disasterous tenure in charge of England but he achieved a lot at Middlesborough and did a good job in Holland, aswell as being a successful right-hand man to Fergie. His start here has not been good though. Didn't get the players he wanted, and isn't doing the job with the players he's got. Some quite critical of him,I'll give him 4 or 5 games more.
3)Our defence are horrendous at the moment. They were excellent through the Billy years but this season have been dreadful. Our strikers can certainly cause problems with the right amount of ball but we've not seen them get the service yet or make a lot of what they have got.
4)In terms of this game, our back 4 will be vital. Luke Chambers must really up it,as must Wes Morgan,if we're to take anything from this game.
5)I would've taken any of Cowie,Graham or Will Buckley last season, don't know enough about your squad so far this season though, now they've all left.
6)Never saw much of Joe Garner, most on here felt he could do a good job and didn't get a fair crack of the whip but I was never convinced. Did a good job at S****horpe last year but one of our strikers had to leave this summer and Joe was the fall guy on this occasion
    7) Again don't know much about Watford, never been to the ground or anything along those lines but quite likes Mackay down there last season. I feared for you pre-season with him gone plus 3 forementioned players. Think you'll stay up easily enough now though

I have a feeling that the mighty Reds are going to win this one with a 1-2 but you won't find many on here in agreement with me. If I was to go with my head instead of my heart I'd have to say a bore draw seems most likely.

1 - Absolutely abysmal. It's impossible to find even one positive. Every player that was here last season has gone backwards on where he was and the new signings have been hit and miss at best.
2 - Disastrous so far. His track records suggests he's a good talker.
3 - The back five that has been the Championship's best over the course of the last two seasons now looks like a grouping of strangers. We have the best midfield in the division though. Apparently.
4 - Lewis McGugan. Obviously he's spent most of this season on the bench.
5 - Marvin Sordell; John Eustace.
6 - I wanted to like Garner. He's certainly capable of a bit of magic, I suppose it's about getting his head right. He's guaranteed to score against us, mind you.
7 - I saw footage from the Graham Taylor/Elton John era of Taylor screaming at one of his players: "Oi! We don't get cramp at this football
club." You're obviously pioneers in terms of pushing the limits of human capability!
8 - If you win by fewer than three goals, consider yourselves relegation candidates.

At the moment we couldn't win an arse kicking contest against a one legged man.

We haven't a clue how good a manager Steve McClaren is, as he's yet to work out his best XI, and he's been unable to bring in additional reinforcements to our squad.

A squad which is about as balanced as an Irishman on St. Patrick's day after sampling a few pints of the black stuff.

We could kick on and go on a blazing run of form, or we could implode and end up bottom by Christmas.

I haven't a clue, as I suspect neither have many others!

I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Thanks for all the replies so quickly, I think I've got enough answers now; though if anyone else wants to contribute feel free.

I'll probably post the preview on Wednesday evening. I'd like to say good luck against Newcastle, but as we're playing you afterwards I hope you loose and continue your poor form!

    1) Having been in the play-offs last season, how do you think Forest have started their current campaign?

Look at the manager, now look at the table, now look back at the manager. Can you see him nearly crying?

    2) What do you make of Steve McLaren’s tenure at the club, and his past managerial roles?

He won the league in Holland with a team that had never won it before, fair enough. But we're back in England now Steve and English players think "total football" is a setting of FIFA 12.

    3) Are there any particularly strong/weak areas in your squad?

Front to back. Especially the back... and the middle.

    4) Who, if anyone, is your key player?

Last season it was McGugan. But now the definition has changed. Someone who is "key" now is somebody that doesn't make mistakes.

    5) Which Watford player would you like to see in the Forest side?

Heard Joe Garner was alright. But seriously... always thought Eustace was decent at this level.

    6) Watford managed to sign Joe Garner from you on deadline day, what do you think of this move, and of Garner as a player?

He's just waiting for somewhere to settle in and then he'll be great. Technically sound, puts himself about (bit too much at times) and can finish well.

    7) What do you think of Watford as a club?

Honestly; not that much. I've been a few times and it's ok, but never seems to be too much going on around the place.

    Finally, what’s your score prediction?

I'd like to think we can scrape a draw, but we might just sink to new lows.

Thanks in advance. I might well see some of you in Nottingham, I’m starting at the university on Sunday!

    1. Badly. Usually strong defence playing awfully, not adjusting to new demands tactically from McClaren.
    2. Tenure so far not good. Apart from England it's impressive.
    3. Weak defence. Strong forwards, given the chances.
    4. Key Player = Raddy Majewski.
    5. Your left back, whoever he is. We could have your U17 left back if you could be so kind?
    6. Good player. Like Grant Holt, I expect him to find a club that suits him, hopefully a manager that will channel his ability the right direction, and fire a side to the Prem. It could be you.
    7. Good club. Like the fact Dyche has been kept, and made manager. But not sure you're strong enough to go higher than lower mid-table.
    8. Forest 2-0 Watford.

Cheers. Good luck for the rest of the season after Saturday.

Yet Forest should not need many new faces in the squad in order to do well, with only Garner (Watford - undisclosed), Dele Adebola (Hull - free) and Nathan Tyson (Derby County - free) leaving the club over the summer.
You want to tell him or shall I?
