I have great memories of watching Italia 90. I was in my mid 20s and had loads of mates round my flat for the England matches, plus many of the other matches. Great times.

Ironically that tournament is often regarded as one of the more boring World Cups by some. I believe it had the lowest average goals per game.

My favourite World Cup ever was 2006, but that's because I went to a couple of matches.

If bryan robson was fit, we'd have won.

The destruction of claudio caniga by cameroon was superb.

Whilst we have fond memories of it, it was one of the most defensive and poor tournaments ever played!

Sadly my favourite memory of it contains David Platt and that goal against Belgium. Either that or jug ears calm and collected penalties against the Cameroonians.

My favourite memory of it, indeed possibly my favourite memory ever watching football, was Linaker's equaliser against West Germany.

To say I went mental would be an understatement.

The one time in history that the tournament's best player was English. Great days.

    This ^

I never celebrated an England goal as much as i did that night!

I have a videotape released shortly after the World Cup that has every goal from every game. Just wish i could watch it again now - must be clips from it on youtube somewhere.

Hah, i was really drunk dont remember posting this at all.

Italia 90 is my all time favourite tournament.

There was just so much drama. I can still remember that penalty shootout and how the entire country was gripped by it.

And so many other just heart pounding moments.

And those mini coca cola footballs we all had? Anyone else remember those?

    So many great memories:

    * Sheedy's equaliser v England
    * THAT penalty shoot-out against Romania
    * The Pope and Big Jack
    * Milla's dance round the corner flag
    * Pride at seeing Walker and Pearce in England's defence
    * Thomas Berthold's dying swan act that got Gazza booked
    * Being gutted for Psycho and Waddle
    * Wandering round Keyworth in an Ireland shirt and not getting beaten up

and somehow, despite barely missing a match, still finding time to pass my A-Levels and snog a young lady from Bunny....

That would be Mexico 1970, young man.

Without a doubt, the greatest World Cup of them all.

As for me USA 1994 was the best tournament ever. And imho the first one World Cup you see is always the best. It's like the first love!

Italia 90 was the first world cup I paid attention to properly, I have dim memories of 86 but wasn't really interested.

However, for me the halcyon tournament will always be Euro 96 for me.

Euro 96 coincided with me getting interested in football. I remember fondly the Spain (Psycho's peno), Scotland (Gazza's single greatest thing he ever did) and Holland (the 'SAS') games, if anything helped get me into football - it was that!
