very interesting, Schteve re stated he would be missing the Portugal trip to bring in players, ' we've let 9 go we need 9 in'.
When asked if the AP was going to be a problem he replied ' I hope not' and then went onto talk about the bad time he had in Germany where he wasn't in charge of bringing the players in and basically said it needed to be sorted out that he was in charge ( well that's what I got anyway ).
He also kept saying IF we are serious and IF we want promotion we need to act to bring in good Premiership players to join the squad we have. Overall he seemed very committed if not a little grumpy...
Nothing we haven't heard already but still....

Can't say I'd blame him. Certainly if history is repeating itself. However, we don't know whats going on behind the scenes do we.

It worries me that Nigel and Mark are unable to conclude deals without the presence of the manager. Mark Arthur is very arrogant and if his radio session about whittingham/pratley is anything to go by I can see him getting players/agents/managers backs up very easily.

Get someone in who is more gracious and has some negotiation skills.

Didn't hear the interview, but from what you're saying it doesn't sound encouraging. Before it was "everyone's working so hard to bring in players", but this sounds like a change in tone and as you say, he sounds frustrated with something going on behind the scenes.

If they let this man walk on failing to back him and false promises, there will be nowhere for the board to hide this time. Although I think he's unlikely to walk unless extreme circumstances persist - he doesn't seem one to shirk a challenge, even if it is multiplied several times harder by having a board with no balls.

Oh great. Looks like we're deludedly going down the 'lets sign Premier League players than we can't afford' route, again.

Why dont we just appoint a manager that fits in with the profile of the club?

Don't know why it hasn't been pointed out, but his exact words were -

"We are looking for senior premiership experienced footballers, to go with this very good young squad"

    Does that worry anyone else?

Nope. Doesn't worry me at all. It is, in my mind, a key element that is indeed missing. Young players are great, but experienced heads that have been there and done that are vital as well. It's all about getting that balance right between the young players that will run and run and older players that have got the knowledge and the skill to slow the game down, pick out the right pass, hold up and control the ball. So no, I am not too worried about that.

Spot on that man. Completely agree, we definitely need a more balanced mix of experience in the side.

He's not suggesting he's looking for the likes of Lampard - in fact his choice of words is unsurprisingly quite deliberate, what with 'senior' having obvious connotations with 'senior citizens' and so on...! He clearly means he's looking for vastly experienced Prem players who are at the stage in their careers where their best option is to drop down a division where they can still be a force whilst sharing their knowledge and expertise with the younger players, and without commanding crazy signing fees and wages. He's not trying to build a team of fogeys either, before anyone dives in with that particular baseless criticism - he's just trying to balance the (dominant) youth of the squad with some age and savvy (especially important if we're hoping to bring more of the academy players through in the coming months).
