Contribute LTLF sponsored Henri Lansbury during the 2012/13 season, and we would like to sponsor a player again next season. To do this we would like your help.

IF LTLF members can raise enough money required to secure the sponsorship of a players shirt for the 2013/14 season we will give away everything to do with the sponsorship as prizes to those that have contributed (prize draw to decide which members win the prizes)

Default Why Billy Davies had to go

Billy Davies might not have been the proverbial dead man walking but he’d been living on borrowed time for over a year…

It’s understandable that many people are shocked at his sacking with two play-off positions in as many years. But the results on the pitch only paint half the picture. This has been more than a season in the making – and, to be honest, I’m surprised it took so long.

Yes, many of Davies’ complaints were valid but his way of going about things has irked the board and many fans. The damage is irreparable. And the long and short of it is that his position was untenable.

Very good article which sums up my feelings on the whole thing quite well.

I say sit down with a cup of tea and read this article, it may not be 100% true (I dont think anyone will ever know for sure what the truth is) but it will remind you to things that have happened over the last two and half years, it does make a lot of sense and I think it is time for a change....

Good article. Is it just me or is Billy now unemployable?

I think Billy has made himself seem a bit of a prat. It hasn't gone unnoticed by the media because plenty have picked up on it over the last two years.

I bear no malice towards him and think he did a good job in the time he was here. He turned us into a top Championship side from an awful one which Colin Calderwood was in charge of. However, I think he had taken us as far as he could and things were not going to improve between him and the board.

We don't know what went on behind the scenes but the sniping in interviews, the complaints whenever anyone would listen and his general demeanour in front of a camera weren't what they should have been.

Davies is a very good manager but, for me, he lets himself down by being a bit of a tosser. Other clubs don't like him and I see why. I loved him while he was in charge and I'm sad to see him go, but I do believe he had taken us as far as he possibly could.

Excellent read, can't fault much of what you've said there.

Is it me or should we congratulate the board on this one as we should have when they appointed Billy. Prgression is a key word they have used and to move from Calderwood, who got us out of league 1, to Billy, who steadied the ship and made us very competitive, and now to Steve Mac who with luck will launch a fresh vibrant and attack minded assualt on the Prem. Well done Mr D and thank you Billy. I wish you every success.

He was the right man at the right time for Forest but it was only ever going to be a short time. Davies is not a man for long-term building, someone who develops the youth players, who brings the whole club forwards as one — and that’s what we need now. Davies was the tempestuous affair we needed to stir our loins, return our self-confidence and restore that glint in our eye. And it was never going to last.
    Very apposite!

Best article I've read on the matter, kudos.

If this great manager/coach with a fantastic CV and many big name contacts in the game we now have fails will people actually accept that certain board members need to be sacked themselves?.

Brilliant read and sums up how I feel, excluding the confidence being knocked through his comments as I do not think he would do this. I believe he would've told the squad to ignore his comments regarding this.

The article made sense to me. I hope McClaren can take us that 'step further'...

I'm not sure who is going to be able to sack the directors!

Great read but total bollocks. Billy was honest and the truth hurt the board - simples.

Quite simply Billy was growing into a Premiership manager faster than the club and board are growing into a Premiership side.

You think his next job will be in the 1st Division then?

Even if sacking BD was to be proved as a mistake, ND made the right move to appoint McClaren as our new manager.
We can blame BD for alot of things, but personally I would like to thank him for givving us stability and taking us two straight seasons to the play offs. Well done Billy !

50/50, don't think he's there quite yet, but he's not far off. If Mark Hughes + O Neil weren't avail then I'd say yes, but I rek most clubs would take a punt on them first.

Also, something in my water tells me Birmingham's gunna snap king Billy up, just a gut instince based on no reason.

That's quite clearly nonsense and a quote to spark debate, I think you are starting to show your true colours.

I think he will certainly bounce back at some stage (and I hope he does) but let's hope it is not to haunt us. Football has a nasty habit of doing that.

My true colour's Red mate and that's my honest opinion. Billy was requesting actions to turn us into a Premiership side, the board didn't deliver them - seems quite simple from where I'm sitting. No debate needed

I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of work for a year.
