Default 15 games to go...how many more wins do we need?

I think 8 more wins should do it (giving us 80 points) and maybe a few draws to help along the way and that should be enough to go up.
of course beating those teams around us will help a lot. beat Norwich, the other Welsh lot and the Scum from Yorkshire and we should be well at the top... and of course spank Leicester at the city ground to keep them in their place. all the teams around are going to keep dropping points through the run in like today and being consistant is the key for us

Forest are looking tougher and more stronger then ever this year. we got to go up!

9 wins 4 draws and 2 losses should be enough.

It's in our hands now, a win against Preston and others slip up would be nice

Does anyone have that stat that shows the average promotion/P-O/relegation points needed in the championship?

Preston is a must win game so we have the breathing space to allow for a slip up against some top teams in this division we still have to face.... Looking at the table now though and looking at the teams we have to play it is certainly in our hands.... One or two loan signings would help with the run in mind...

I've been extrapolating for a while now and I'm convinced that 83.33334 points will be enough for an automatic place.

Everyone is dropping points and the totals achieved by Newcastle and WBA last season are not going to be required this time around.

    So 9 wins, 1 draw, 5 defeats
    or 8 wins, 4 draws, 3 defeats

The difference between 1st and 6th place last season was 32 points. This season (so far) it is only 8 points.

    THIS.

15 games out, and it's ENTIRELY in our own hands. For once in our lives, it's ours to lose.

You will drive yourselves crackers, starting to calculate with so much of the season left to play football in, anything can and may happen, to ourselves and other clubs fighting for promotion, lets face it coming up on the blindside are Leicester City, like or loathe them for their past financial ducking diving and surviving, they have an astute manager, made some good signings and at the moment money is no object to getting what they want.

Keep your feet on the ground and take each game as it comes, thank S****horpe for a dash of reality which seems to have done some good in some places. Most important game of the season now...........Preston at Home !!!!

I think QPR will do enough to go up and Cardiff, Norwich and Swansea will be there or there abouts. Don't think 80 points would be enough. 86 or so maybe.

as billy said, every game now is a cup final. we have some very tough games left.

    incidentally: http://www.statto.com/football/stats...e-championship

statto index has us 1) going up and 2) the best team in the league. leicester are 3rd best.

Winning all our remaining games isn't our only objective but also scoring more goals whilst keeping a clean sheet to improve our goal difference.

QPR are still looking strong and if they drop a few points it might be goals scored that makes the difference.

I fully expect Leicester to get themselves into a position where automatic promotion is a good possibility.

Billy will take it all game by game but raise a bushy eyebrow at the league table and start to plan further ahead than May.

I think 'odd' is a good thing. Oddness shows originality, uniqueness and a desire to be different from the masses. Oddness is, maybe, only deemed 'odd' by the majority who are considered less odd but only by their own blinkered observations and understanding. Oddness should never be criticised but be encouraged to nurture, develop individualism and to explore the mind rather than conform to expectation and 'normality'. Many of the world's greatest works of art and prose were born from those minds many considered to be 'odd'.

    I've quickly had a look at some stats over the last 10 seasons and here are the findings;

87 points is the average number of points achieved by the 2nd placed team over the course of the season.
Forest have 56 points and can achieve a maximum of 101 points
31 points from 45 available would see us 'promoted'
Something like 10 wins 1 draw and 4 defeats should do it (or other combination as long as 31 points are won)

Looking at the table, surely the most logical answer is 1 more win than Cardiff/ Swansea/ Leicester/ Norwich/ Leeds for second and 1 more win than QPR for top spot..

    Screw statistics, these are facts..

ok but look at the number of points automatically promoted sides were on after 31 games:

    09/10 - newcastle 63, west brom 61
    08/09 - wolves 63, birmingham 57
    07/08 - west brom 54, stoke 53
    06/07 - sunderland 50, birmingham 60
    05/06 - reading 76 (!!!!!), sheff utd 69
    04/05 - sunderland 57, wigan 57
    03/04 - norwich 62, west brom 57
    02/03 - portsmouth 66, leicester 64

with the exception of sunderland who were well out the picture every one of these teams were in a top 3 spot at this point. most occupied the top 2 positions. qpr were on 60 after 31 games, so they're slap bang in the middle of these guys, we're on 56 which puts us a little lower but still best placed of all sides in this division.

it's hard to tell with the relative strength of the division... i'll try and do some standard deviation calculations but it's all guesswork essentially. if leicester manage to get automatic it'll be one of the greatest turnarounds ever.

None of the teams around us are capable of winning all their remaining 15 games..

Almost a Frank Clarke-esque turnaroud, wouldn't you say? It's amazing what adding a scandinavian partway through a season can do for a club floundering slightly in this league!

Be interesting to see how we fare going into our 35th game.

Cardiff have Leicester at home followed by Hull away. They'd do very well to get four points out of that.
QPR have Ipswich at home followed by Middlesborough. Could go either way.

Norwich and Swansea have slightly easier games.

Forest have Preston at home, Millwall away and then Middlesborough.

There's a big possibility that in 2 weeks time Cardiff won't be in the top six.

Considering our superior goal difference to our rivals I believe 7 wins 6 draws 2 losses would give us 83. To top us would need 84 which would take some doing. Cardiff/leicester would need 8 or 9 wins out of 14....It's ours to lose
