Default It could be worse ... Lee Camp

It may have got a mention elsewhere, but I tuned in to Matchday late to hear Lee Camp talking.

He came out with "well, it could be worse, we could be bottom of the league and just have sacked our manager!" when asked about another 1-1.

Lee Camp, is a Forest fan lol

Nice to hear somebody put the boot in for everyone across the County to hear, usually they're too worried about upsetting somebody, but not Lee it would seem.

Lee Camp doesn't speak like I expect him too. When you see him screaming at his back four on the pitch, you don't expect the ever so slightly chavvy Derbyshire accent to come out when he's interviewed.

Is their accent any different to ours? I've never noticed while I've been over there.

Oh yes. I always found it amazing how accents could change in such a short distance (Langley Mill, Derbyshire to Eastwood, Nottinghamshire).

The nottinghamshire way to pronounce 'have' is 'ev'. On a posh forum like this its spelt 'of' though.

    Good Lord!

I appear to have wandered in to "How to to talk like a Derbyshire bumpkin" by accident! To think one is suggesting some of us talk like that really is the most awful slander.

I've a jolly good idea to send my man, Perkins, round to teach them some manners!

„I believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialism“

Im originally from Alvaston in Derby, most of my family still live there, and ive been in Nottingham since i was 10 when my parents split, and ive now lost my Derby accent, i can tell its changed whenever i go over to see my sister or dad, for instance they pronounce Derby as Darb-i, whereas we say it as Darb-eh it the same for anything that has a Y on the end, thats what i notice most about their accent.

We put an eh on lots of things.

This weekend it's time for Gooseh! Anyone going daan Gooseh.

Midlands accents, and Nottingham variants in particular, are under-rated for interest levels, we seemlessly blend Northern and Southern elements into something all together more aurally acceptable.

Indeedy, it's so notoriously hard to master for the outsider because of those two factors. Harsh northern tones with some soft southern vowels - i heard the Nottingham accent described like that once and it's the best description i can think of.

I walked into a pub on the northeast coast and asked for a pint of stella. The landlord didn't pour me a drink - he just asked, "Heanor or Ripley?" Frightening.

The thread seems to have been hijacked by ruffians, scoundrels, and ne'er-do-wells.

I shall retire to my leather armchair in my club, and, whilst nursing a whiskey, weep for the decline of the language of Shakespeare!

    Toodle-pip!

Sorry guys, my highlighting of Lee Camp's distinctive east midlands tones has seen the thread divert onto this Nottinghamshire-tinged tangent!

Oh well, we're all 'aving fun, and Camp is still a leg-end for baiting the bin robbers like that, so everyone's a winner.

To be fair, Al, you're much more well spoken than many Nottinghamians.

    Talk to me, Goose.
