    Default The LTLF TV Thread

We seem to be lacking one. Personally I prefer TV series than films these days. Anyone know any good series out atm?

I'm obsessed with 'The Mentalist' recently. Simon Baker (soccer aid fame) plays a former con-artist who made a living on 'contacting' peoples relatives, where he is really a mentalist. Someone who observes peoples reactions, and has powers of persuasion. Whilst helping the police suffers a tragic loss due to his over confidence. He continues to assist the CBI (California Bereau of Investigation) to track down the mysterious 'Red John'.

There is the usual monster of the week theme, but every so often a taste of the killer is thrown in. Very very funny (see Agent Cho) and surprisingly thrilling at times.

I think there has been a similar show just released 'Lie to me' but I don't expect it to be half as good.

The Mentalist is okay. I get annoyed by Simon Baker's character though, bit too off the wall. He does a good American accent though!

CSI Miami & NY are good if you're desperate for something to watch. I'm not a massive fan, but if all else fails then it's a good hours entertainment.

CSI & NCIS are ok, but I find it hard to get really involved in. Similar to 24, I found that so drawnout it was unreal.

Sat watching series 3 of the X-Files now. I forgot how good it was lol

I love the mentalist. Got the last 3 episodes of season 2 downloaded, so I really need to watch them.

On another spectrum, does anyone know when TV Burp is back on the screens? I've been going through clips on youtube the last week laughing my arse off.

I can't seem to find many new TV series' I enjoy watching, so I've started watching all five series of "Miami Vice" from the 80's.

    Proper nostalgia, that is!

Oh yeah that Lesbo! At first I didn't like her but just recently she's been wearing a bit less make-up and that makes her look a lot fitter

The Mentalist is good but like all US TV progs they will beat it to death.

Lie to me is quite clever and you may well enjoy it.

The series I have most enjoyed this year is a new cop program called 'Memphis Beat' with Jason Lee (the one the one from My Name is Earl not old pineapple top). If it comes to the UK make sure to watch it.

Cheers for the pointers, although I may miss out on the opera one.

One series I have just finished is 'Sons of Anarchy'. An American show with another Brit in the leading role. About a biker gang in the south, it is such a refreshing series both gritty and inclusive in equal measures. The lead is played by Charlie Hunnam (skin-head cockney in green street) who's dad used to be leader of the gang.

Also with Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman it's worth a scan !

I can't even see the title "the mentalist" on the telly without having a mental image of Alan Partridge running away from his stalker shouting "he's a mentalist, he's a mentalist"

I was like that initially. Sadly I'm now used to the programme and it doesn't enter my mind anymore.

Hope it's OK to talk about films on TV in this thread.

Had the misfortune to catch a bit of Moonraker this afternoon which makes two things spring to mind.
    1. God James Bond films are ****.
    2. Whoever books films for ITV must be the laziest, most unimaginitive idiot in TV "Sod it, let's just show all the Bond films in rotation every sunday afternoon"

I don't really watch much TV but lately I've watched through all the series of Peep Show and I love CSI which is starting up again in just under a month! Even though they're all the same, I'm totally hooked on all 3! Miami is worth it just for Horatio's one liners and mannerisms.

I know, it's so ridiculous, it's brilliant, you can't help but laugh at his incredibly insensitive quips whilst standing over a murder victim.

He can't hold his head upright either. He's like a gentle-faced Gordon Ramsay.

CSI is bloody awful, occasionally the missus inflicts it on me, pile of predictably dull unrealistic ****.

It's harmless filler telly. The fact that it takes up the majority of Five's schedule should tell you all you need to know about that particular channel.
