it's broken the record by miles and miles. the previous record was only 5 hours or something.

I don't fancy the winner in the next round at all. If I played tennis for nearly 9 hours straight I'd retire for the rest of the year.

    52-51

holy moly. only needs 5 more games each to have had more games in this set than in any match in history. and it's about to be a longer set than any match in history.

By "relegation battle", do you mean 7th, 12th or 14th?

Mahut has served 86 aces in this match. That must surely be another all time record. lol

I was watching this earlier about 2ish, left to go to watch the match at a mates house, got home at 6 and they were still playing. Hideous. I need to revise but it's distracting me!

After 5 hours of play they should be forced to use their other arm. Or progressively make the service box smaller. Or allow the crowd to fire BB pellets at the players to distract them

Or throw wet sponges at them in the style of Fun House. Or fire tennis balls out of a gun like on Gladiators.

    Right, I know England played.

But anyone who watched the tennis has seen one of the THE greatest sporting events in history.

    This is just incredible.

Seriously, this will not happen again in our lifetimes.

While Isner was almost delirious, Mahut, 28, looked remarkably fresh, perhaps boosted by the knowledge he had won a match with Britain's Alex Bogdanovic in qualifying 24-22 in the final set.
Before they headed off for a well-earned rest, the players were grabbed by the BBC's Phil Jones for a final word on an astonishing day.
Mahut said: "We're fighting like we have never done before. We'll come back tomorrow and see who is going to win this match. Everyone wants to see the end."
Isner added: "He's serving fantastic, I'm serving fantastic. Nothing like this will ever happen again."
Be glad you ever saw it. Amazing stuff, amazing.

It'll probably end in two games tomorrow.
