Itís not as magical as it once was though, like Andy says, maybe itís an age thing.

Other cities are similar, used to like going to Sheffield and London but they donít appeal much now.
Cities are essentially the same nowadays, chain pubs, chain restaurants and chain stores.
There's no Fountain, QE, Dog and Bear, Robin Hood Tavern, Tavern in the Town it's All Bar One, Pitcher and Piano, Lloyds, Spoons etc. Just the same as everywhere else.
Remember Birdcage, 1860, Cruise Flannels, G Force shoes, you could get some pretty original gear often only costing a little more than Next, now you do your bollocks and still end up looking like every other ****.
Family restaurants are a rare sight now with Wankie and Bennies etc taking over the high street.

I wouldn't move back to Notts anytime soon.
Everytime I come back it is getting more and more busy.
Don't know if Lincolnshire is the answer or not , North Yorkshire is too expensive.

There are some decent places in Lincolnshire and it is pretty cheap too. Towns there have their problems too, jobs, pay, transport being some. There are chavs too but you don’t get the serous problems you get in the cities.

I'm surprised to hear that based on some of the ***** that I knew who moved to Louth.

That post jogged my memory mate, add in the King John, select a disc and Limeys and I’m in my element

All moulding into one isn’t it, a lot of cities are losing their character and tradition in the name of progress.

I really like Lincolnshire, the father-in-law lives in a hamlet 10 miles outside Sleaford, itís an amazing place. He gets deer on his garden and has a Spotted Flycatcher nesting near his living room window. All the locals are helpful, proper community feel, no idiots.
We go to Lincoln a lot too, as cities go itís one of my favourites.

Used to be a good night out. Made a (nice) change from drinking in Grimsby when I lived there. Was always a scrap or two though, you find that in market towns. Places like Louth, Brigg, Barton are all pleasant, safe and not too pricey.

I spent the day in Birmingham city centre (went to see the Stray Cats)yesterday and it is a MASSIVE SHIT HOLE. Streets are full of rubbish and they stink of piss.

The place is a utter disgrace.

And it's got no character either.

What’s Nunsthorpe like? Seems to be a bit of a legendary place amongst Grimsby folk.

It’s got a bad reputation as it is the biggest estate in Grimsby by a way. In my experience there were worse estates but they were smaller. The areas around the docks are far worse and more deprived too I’d say. Not estates as such but just rows upon row of 2 up, 2 down squalor. There was an estate there called the Yarbrough estate probably a mile from the nunny. It was really rough, more than half the houses and flats were boarded up, there would be one house on some streets with someone living there and the rest boarded up, kids running riot, stabbing, murders, awful. It’s been ploughed in to the ground now. I’d have probably lived on nunny although the locals are very insular.

I think Nottm's alright but I'd change so much.

I work there every day, drink there, get records there. Everything I do is in Nottm. I could walk into Bestwood or Arnold within 30 minutes but somewhere like Arnold has gone down the pan.

I did go for a few drinks there for the first time in years a few weeks back. It was quite nice, but I'd rather be in town I think.

Some of them places sound like Mansfield

Fucking grim isn’t it, in this day and age.

It’s probably not too dissimilar. Since I lived there they have just knocked loads of it down. All the tower blocks have gone, near the docks they started knocking every other street down to create green spaces. They knocked a whole estate down as I said. I imagine all the same problems still exist just somewhere else. Unless it was all the buildings committing crime. But yes it is depressing. I had a good couple of years there though to be fair.

I once had to visit a house near the docks in a professional capacity. The woman who lived there was getting attacked, Windows bricked, wheelie bins burnt against her door, dog shit thrown through letter box etc... Her crime? She had double glazing, seriously!!

Oh look you can still get your house improved at the taxpayers expense. As long as you are in the right family of course. *****.

Some people round here only have one car, and they buy it second hand. Shocking.

The quotation that got me bursting a blood-vessel with rage was something like the money was spent wisely and was the bare minimum to get the house into a basic livable condition.
You tell that to council house tenants, or those renting from scurrilous landlords, who live with condensation dripping down walls, black mould and dangerous heating systems.
They'll tell you what small amounts they would need spending on the property to bring it up to basic living standards.
And, with a chronic housing shortage in the UK, meaning that every village is to be swamped by sink-estates on their fringes, the property was formerly 5 homes that have been knocked into one.
I don't doubt the Ginger one served his country in Afghanistan and faced physical and mental conditions that most of us would avoid at all costs (but he still came back with all 4 limbs and a sound mind), but so did a lot of service personnel.
They don't get a publicly funded 5-house unit knocked into 1 cottage for 3 at a cost of £2.4m to the public purse (funded by the working classes tax contribution - rich folk can afford tax avoiding schemes, so they are OK).
No, they get stuck into MOD homes sold off to private landlords who treat them like second class citizens.
Stop me someone... stop me before I collapse with apoplexy!

"Separate accounts show the Crown Estate provided a record £343.5m to the Treasury in 2018-19, up 4.3% on last year."

I'm sure we can let them off...

Have inheritance tax been paid on them?

Dear oh dear, you can't expect them to pay every tax. The queen has only managed a meagre income increase from 15% of the crown estate to 25% to help with refurbishments to Buck house. We are all in this together you know.

Whenever the royals are mentioned I always think of my old Irish mate's missus who was a keen lover of them, in fact her sister in law was married to Ken Wharfe.
The lads I knocked about with convinced my mates missus that one of us was also a keen royalist and would be so grateful if we could have the video she had of Charles and Di,s wedding to watch.
Apparently when she got the video back and settled down with her friends to watch the wedding highlights, some rotten bastard had spliced some hard core porn into it.

HM The Queen responds to calls for her to pay more tax:

ĄI believe in socialism because it seems more humanitarian, rather than every man for himself and 'I'm alright jack' and all those arsehole businessmen with all the loot. I made up my mind from viewing society from that angle. That's where I'm from and there's where I've made my decisions from. That's why I believe in socialismď
