Newcastle win for me...

I would rather newcastle win the league by 30 points and us to be 2nd, 4 points clear with one game to go!!!

Also if WBA lose that's a bad loss and could mean they go on a mini bad run!

Newcastle will be looking to strengthen their hold on top spot when they face third-placed West Brom at St James' Park on Monday night.

Both sides looked well placed to secure automatic promotion earlier in the season but the stunning form of Nottingham Forest has made the battle for a top-two finish more intriguing.

Roberto Di Matteo's Baggies have slipped back into the play-off pack but still have two games in hand on Forest and can narrow the gap to just one point with victory at Newcastle.

The Magpies have been held in their past two Championship outings and will be determined to return to winning ways.

Chris Hughton will revert back to his strongest side after rotating his squad for the two recent FA Cup encounters against Plymouth.

Peter Lovenkrands netted a hat-trick to see off the Pilgrims 3-0 in their midweek replay but he will not be available having returned to Denmark for family reasons.

Alan Smith has fully recovered from an eye injury sustained during the initial goalless draw at Home Park and should start.

Fellow midfielder Joey Barton remains the only player on the injury list as he nears the end of his lengthy recovery from a foot injury.

On-loan full-back Danny Simpson is due to make his final appearance for the club before returning to Manchester United although Hughton is still trying to negotiate a permanent deal.

West Brom news

West Brom boss Di Matteo has a near full-strength squad at his disposal.

Chris Brunt has recovered from illness while right-back Gianni Zuiverloon has overcome an ankle problem he picked up in last Friday's 3-1 home defeat to Forest.

Striker Ishmael Miller made his long-awaited return from the bench against Billy Davies' side after a 13-month battle to overcome a knee injury, and he should again be among Di Matteo's substitutes.

That just leaves James Morrison (heel) as the only player in the treatment room, although he is hoping to make a return to first-team action before the end of January after nine months on the sidelines. Centre-back Abdoulaye Meite remains at the African Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast.

Di Matteo has promised changes to his starting line-up after the disappointing defeat to Forest, with central midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu the most likely man to earn a recall.

As others have said, the best we could wish for would be a few sendings off to weaken our rivals in forthcoming games. Ref Paul Taylor has sent off 7 players in his last 14 games and he has a bit of a reputation for dishing out the cards in the lower leagues, having been expelled from the Premier League list.
