Snippet in the Sun.
Would be a good singing, not sure he's worth £3m, though.BILLY DAVIES is lining up a £3m swoop for Aston Villa defender Nicky Shorey.
The Nottingham Forest boss wants to offer Shorey an escape from his Villa hell.

£3 mill is a bit much, good player none the less
Good player, would love to see him at Forest.
this is how it starts.
Billy offers them £3m, they get interested, then the TAP get him for 3 bob and a peanut...
thats buisness!
No; This is how it works - BD recognises the players he wants and gives the acquisition committee his list.Originally Posted by Jimbo
On it is Shorey - Villa want £3mil. Marthur goes in at 100k and throughout January there will be 200 phone calls and umpteen meetings with Villa and on the last day of January Marthur will put in one last offer of 300k which will be rejected and when we lose out once again a statement from Marthur will read................ "We put in what we considered a fair offer for this player but Aston Villa valued their player much more than we were prepared to pay so negotiations broke down and the matter is now closed"
With all their eggs in one basket the rest of Billies targets were ignored and we finish up at the end of January (again) with no one.
That's how it works.
If we do recruit anyone come January I think you can safely say that Marthur has been removed from future transfer negotiations but don't hold your breath.
Vital's take on the Shorey News.
Villa Defender Linked With Forest Move.
The Sun is today linking out of favour Aston Villa defender Nicky Shorey with a January move to Forest.
The paper suggests a fee of £3m would be enough to persuade St. Martin to part with the former Reading left back, who can't get in the current Villa side.
News of Forests' interest in Shorey began to circulate on the internet last week. There's no doubting he could do a job for the Reds', but would he be prepared to drop down to the Championship? That's the problem Forest have at the moment, in persuading the quality required to come to the club. Forest clearly have the ambition and the financial clout to make the step up, but they need to convince the likes of Shorey to come here in the first place.
To be honest, standing firm with peanuts bids worked with Ando and Camp.Originally Posted by PSR

So is 3 million really too much for a 28 year old who has another 5, 6 or 7 years in the game ?

He moved to Villa for a reported 4.5 million. I haven't seen much of him but remember him being very highly rated when at Reading. He's 28, and you don't become a bad player overnight.
Would be one of the best defenders in the Championship IMO.
too old
too ginger
He certainly aint too old
He's 28, the same age as Ashley Cole. Wayne Bridge is 29. I don't consider those to be too old!In fact he's just the right age in terms of experience and ability we should be looking at.
If he came, he doesn't have much resale value but that's what happens if you want to buy experience.
This is a good read on Shorey from Wikipedia.

Great Signing if True!!! 3m .... mmmmm more like 2m max me thinks!!!
3 mill + Albrighton on loan. Him on the right with Ando on left. Very tasty.
Place of Birth Romford...hmmm, right near me... I wonder if his family are still there...
''Nicholas "Nicky" Shorey (born 19 February 1981 in Romford, Greater London) is an English footballer, playing in the left back position for Aston Villa in the Premier League. Shorey is one of the few players to have played in all four professional divisions of the English football league system. Has been linked with Nottingham Forest and really really wants to play for them.''
Really ?

Pay the full £3m, he's £3m better than Bennett and Lynch.
When did he play twice for England? Was this under Steve McClaren?
Actually, if Cashley Cole and Wayne Bridge got injured, who would be England's left back? Joel Lynch?
Wes Brown or Jolen Lescott.Originally Posted by DanR
Agreed! to be honest, he could do a good job for us, and it looks as if the Bale deal is off as it looks as if he will be signing for Brum, so if Billy has established that this is the player he wants then the board should go out and get him!Originally Posted by Red Alert
After all, the previous signings that Billy made have proved to be great signings, plus surely this transfer panel cannot expect to get everyone on the cheap, can they?
