Default England Vs Ukraine not televised... online ppv only.

I think it is not on that the only way we can watch the national team is by paying £5 to watch on the internet. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

    Don't SKY have it?

No it's online only. I don't think it's fair to people who like to watch in pubs or people who can't use computers. It was bad enough when England games went to pay TV but this is going too far for me, at least people who didn't have sky could go out to watch it.

One more example of money ruining football.

It's because Setanta had the rights to England away games and ITV (who have the home ones) didn't want to stump up the money for the existing away ones. It's disgusting really, but hopefully not a common thing. You'd have thought that ESPN would have screened it seeing as they have taken on the remainder of Setanta's contract.

They won't make a penny out of this, which is good

are you sure? i'm led to believe that no-one owns rights to england away games and it has be bought off the local football authorities in the host country each time.

whoever is doing it though is an absolute idiot. this is a meaningless match essentially so barely anyone is going to stump up £5 to watch it when they're used to having it on an existing package or on freeview. people can live without one england match.

Absolutely ridiculous, i thought the FA wanted more people to be able to see england games? i won't be paying and urge everyone else not to, it's a long slippery slope.

It's £5 before wednesday. Anyone who gets it on the day of the match will be paying £12

    Fuck that.

If it was an important match, I'd pay £5.

    It isn't, so I won't.

The rights sellers have stuffed this up by holding out for too much money.

Fuck 'em, I hope they go to the wall.

Agreed. We've already qualified, so we could win or lose 10-0 and it wouldn't matter a jot. The game is no more than a glorified friendly - professional pride will ensure the team put in a decent performance, but I can't get excited about this game.

It's essentially cut off virtually all people over a certain age, with the exception of the silver surfers.

    Disgraceful.

How is it being broadcast in the Ukraine?

    Talk to me, Goose.

The Ukrainian FA sold the rights to an agency, Kentaro, who then sold the rights on to Setanta. When Setanta went bust, the rights reverted back to Kentaro.

None of the traditional broadcasters wanted to pay the price Kentaro were asking, which is why they're flogging it on PPV on t'interweb.

Anyone who pays 5 quid, let alone 12 for a meaningless match wants their head testing. Especially as there is no guarantee of picture quality or buffering issues.

It was wrong enough that they sold the rights to Setanta in the first place. All competitive internationals should be on free-to-air TV in both countries, but at least with Setanta and Sky you have the option of watching the game in a pub.

I hope this is a huge flop.

How come the World Cup qualifiers don't count as World Cup games, which are part of the 'Crown Jewels', guaranteeing them to be on terrestrial television?

Surely this is easier for justin.tv to screen it

I'm sure it will be free on some internet site somewhere

Sven's part of the commentary team

Former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson is part of the studio team for the match, while Kentaro has promised "a top commentary team"

It has nothing to do with the FA. They have no say at all when it comes to TV rights for away matches so can't do anything about it

But didn't FIFA say the same? isn't that were the FA got the idea/directive from?

    Default England game

Have you all seen this? I know it doesn't mean much as we are already qualified, but England's game against Ukraine is only on the internet! What a joke!

I think someone should start a petition to boycott this game as it could be the start to having to pay for every England game. (living abroad I would happily pay a fiver to watch every forest game but thats another matter)

The National team should be free to watch.
