    Default Managers with Championship Success

Given that one criteria for our new manager seems to be Championship success, for a bit of fun, I thought I'd see which managers have achieved promotion to the Premier League (I've gone back 8 seasons as I couldn't be bothered to do anymore)

There are 22 altogether, with 3 having achieved promotion twice. The 2 are Mick McCarthy & Neil Warnock.

Of those 22 nine have current Premier League jobs,
    Brian McDermott (Reading)
    Alan Pardew (Newcastle)
    Tony Pulis (Stoke)
    Roberto Di Matteo (Chelsea)
    Nigel Adkins (Southampton)
    Paul Lambert (Aston Villa)
    Brendan Rodgers (Liverpool)
    Sam Allardyce (West Ham)
    Chris Hughton (Norwich City)

    six have current Championship jobs,
    Neil Warnock (Leeds)
    Tony Mowbray (Middlesbrough)
    Steve Bruce (Hull City)
    Paul Jewell (Ipswich Town)
    Ian Holloway (Blackpool)
    Owen Coyle (Bolton)

    one in League Two,
    Aidy Boothroyd (Northampton Town)

and six with no managers job,
    Mick McCarthy
    Roy Keane
    Alex McLeish
    Steve Coppell (DOF - Crawley)
    Billy Davies
    Phil Brown

To be honest it doesn't look good. Unless we can prize Warnock or Holloway away from their clubs I think we have no choice but to bring our Billy back!!

Disclaimer: Just a bit of fun remember!!

Great list and totally agree. That chances of getting Warnock or Holloway are slim to say the least. I have once wanted Billy back as I thought it best to just move on. But with the crop of managers applying for the job (like Ince saying he wants it). Just bring Billy back and give him some stellar signings.

depends what you class as success success could be arguably someone like dougie freedman for example punching above weight etc. In premiership terms Moyes and Redknapp arent a success on your basis.

    Don't forget MON with Leicester.

If we are serious about making the most of the new investment then the managers I'd shortlist are:

    MON - dreamland
    Davies
    Holloway
    McCarthy - turned us down
    Warnock
    Redknapp - turned us down

With the only exception being SOD as he fits other criteria and made a difference on his arrival here.

After that then through gritted teeath I'd begrudingly accept Keane as, even though I think there's a good chance he could destroy our club, he's better than the likes of McCleish.

Clough & Pearce would obviously be a gamble, but one I wouldn;t want to take in case it turned sour.

    Keane? Better than Mcleish?

Let's talk about achievements here. McLeish got a team promoted, then took that team into Europe after beating Arsenal in a cup final at Wembley.

What has Keane done to match that?

Edit, arguments about "style" are subjective, football is a sporting competition remember...

Yeah I'm not saying he's right for Forest

But come on now, if we got to Wembley, beat Arsenal and then got to play in Europe... would you still be at home watching paint dry?

Oh I agree mate, I was just making the point about Keane as he's in the running and what I'd class the best of the utterly shit section of choices

After Cotterill's hoofathon I simply can't cope with another hoofer.

I honestly would sooner stay in this division finishing 8th-3rd every year and watching good footy than become a purely hoofing club.

Kevin Keegan has won promotion from this division as champions (Newcastle) and what is now League One (Fulham)

Also Jean Tigana took Fulham to the premiership. Whats he doing now?

Tigana was at Shanghai Shenhua. He got sacked and they put Anelka in charge. Incidentally Anelka pissed of the Chinese fans by refusing to bow to them after a game. Now they all hate him and want him out.

Think I'll start a thread about us signing him....
