January 2024 Transfer Window

Project Zeus

Steve Chettle
There seems to have been a sudden burst of transfer links in the last 24 hours.

I wonder if this is the typical end of transfer window rush, or whether the club has received more guidance on how the outstanding FFP charge is going and is now more confident signing additional players?

GK: XX, Turner, Shelvey
RB: Montiel, Williams
RCB: Boly, Omobamidele
LCB: Niakhate, Murillo, McKenna
LB: Toffolo, Aina
RCM: Sangare, Yates, Kouyate
LCM: Dominguez, Danilo
RW: Elanga, XX
AM: Gibbs-White, Aguilera
LW: XX, Hudson-Odoi
ST: Awoniyi, XX, Wood

That's should be the template.

Shelvey and Aguilera are U21 which creates space for McKenna and Kouyate as emergency backups for the remainder of the season at which point we'll know whether we want to replace with expensive PL quality or a significantly cheaper young player with potential depending on what league we're in.

No space in the 25 for Worrall, Mangala, Aurier, Hennessey, Horvath, Vlachodimos, Tavares, Felipe, Origi, Dennis, Mbe Soh, O'Brien, Hwang, Bowler and so are all on the out pile. Hopefully we could get £40m+ for the combination of all of them.

Four players in. Majority of that £40m income to be used on a starting GK and LW. Other winger should be a loan (probably Reyna if reports are to be believed) as too should the backup striker. Re-assess both these loan slots in summer when transfer budget is known.

Don't Murillo and Andrew count as u21 this season as born after Jan 1st 2002? They both become "senior" players next season though.

Should there be a thread for Nelson Abbey from Reading? Going to Oly apparently but twitter gossip says with a view to loan to us.

Gossip seems to suggest any move to us being some way down the line - next season or the one after.

It seems that some Italian sides are taking a bit of a punt while the likes of Juve and the Milan sides are in a bit of a slump and not what they were. Maybe they see it as an opportunity to gain some ground on them

Bit of a slump? Juve are 1st, Inter 2nd and Milan 3rd. All of them have made at least one signing in this window too.

I doubt it will even be a loan. In my view we only bought him because you wanted to secure him (and not let Luton sign him), without making a fuss of it (ffp and all that), so we bought him in your stead. As I mentioned in the other thread, we bought two more CBs (and we already have four), so there will probably be no future for him here (he'll probably be playing with the U23 until the end of the season). Either this summer or the next one he'll be coming to Nottingham, and if he doesn't convince there he'll be sent on loan.

I'm a bit surprised about how unanimously praising are the comments about him; he seems to be too good for L1.

He’s supposed to be a very good prospect. Played for England youth sides. Reading do produce decent players in general. Any talk of him going back on loan again? A Championship move for the rest of the season would be good for his development, maybe somewhere like Plymouth.

I think we know the answer to that one.

The fun facts of transfers in the age of multi-club ownership: we signed an Argentinian CB, Gastón Hernández. The price was 3,6m with various bonuses based on number of appearances. But the selling club, San Lorenzo, inserted an additional clause that if the player moves to Forest, we'll pay an extra million. This does not mean that you're potentially interested in the player, it just means that selling clubs add clauses for Premier money, just in case.

I’m pleased with the couple of seemingly fairly solid links for inbound players. But where are the outbound deals? Worral gone quiet. Mangala gone quiet. Origi heading back perhaps. Dog snogger leaving? Will Nuno get his sought after smaller squad?

The 20 year old Uruguayan Luciano Rodriguez looks decent. Has a brilliant free-kick, great delivery and has scored some absolute stunners.

Scored three v Paraguay U23s. Plays on the RW. He’s off to River Plate for 7m.

No links. Just refreshing the thread periodically.

Nuno expecting a busy end to the window, that there is a lot of situations to take care of.

Forest deadline day is always fun - so expect 92 players to come in and 0 to leave and Harry Arter to get a contract extension

There was something reported earlier that Blades are trying to negotiate a fee for Joe... Obviously they don't want to pay what we want for him.

Senegal v Ivory Coast on Monday so we get one centre half back after that which may ease the way for one to leave (is Niahkate fit though?).

This year Forest will be doing all their business after the deadline to circumvent the FFP limits.
